Local 71 Cares That Kids Don’t Float – Chitina 2025
Local 71 Cares:
Our Fairbanks Airport Operators took some much deserved R & R this week to get their annual Copper River Salmon harvest in Chitina, and we sent more life vests down the highway for our rural communities along the river.
Northern Region Business Representative, Chris Tapp, went dipnetting in Chitina with Local 71 members Wes Stickels and Eric Peterson, Operators from our Fairbanks International Airport; and his brother Thomas Tapp. They also stocked the life jackets at O’Brien Creek,, a highly used boat launch.
Many Alaskans harvest their Copper River Salmon in the dangerous and swift moving Chitina River, where last year, our Northern Region Business Representative, Kyle Perry, assisted in a cold water rescue of a man who had fallen into the river.
Local 71 Members are committed to the communities where we live and work. We know that safety is everyone’s responsibility, and we are doing our part.
