Brothers and Sisters,
This union was founded more than a century ago by courageous Laborers who stood up not just for themselves, but for their fellow workers. Domenico D’Alessandro is one such leader. He arrived on our shores in 1898 and went on to help dismantle a corrupt system of labor exploitation called the Padrone System. We have come so far since 1898, but there are many aspects of this story that ring true today: We are a union that was founded by immigrants. Our power comes from our ability to organize. The fates of all workers are intertwined.
